Distances in Mexico

In comparison to the United States, at times Mexico may seem small. Yet it covers approximately 1.2 million square miles and is the 14th largest country in the world. With a population of 103 million, there are many souls here that need to hear the Gospel.

Working in Mexico includes working with distance issues. The congregations are spread throughout the country. Here are a few examples of the distances:

- The closest congregation to Christ Redeemer in Juarez is 10 hours away by bus

- Two students studying at the seminary in Torreon (four hours west of Monterrey) are 16 hours by bus away from their families and homes in the Puebla area

- Mission work in Sonora (in the Nogales area) is over 24 hours by bus away from all congregations except one

You may have noticed that bus travel was mentioned in each of the examples. Buses are the most common way for people to travel from place to place in Mexico. Because the congregations are spread out, pastors make an effort to travel by bus for conferences and workshops. They enjoy fellowship at every opportunity they have, as it encourages them to continue working in their individual areas.

Over the years, God has blessed the mission efforts in different areas of Mexico. By his grace, these areas will continue to grow and new places will present more Gospel opportunities.
