A Month of Holidays

It's May and it's time to party! May is a month full of special holidays in Mexico. Here is a list of the events celebrated during this time:

May 1: Día del Trabajo, which is equivalent to Labor Day in the U.S.

May 5: Cinco de Mayo honors the victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla, which took place in 1862. This day is sometimes confused with Mexico's Independence Day, which is September 16.

May 10: Mother's Day, one of the most-celebrated holidays in Mexico. Many mothers will be taken out to eat, showered with gifts or serenaded before the day is over.

May 15: Teacher's Day, a day to show appreciation to all teachers

These important days are often celebrated with parties and lots of food and cake. After the holiday-filled May, June often seems like a quiet month!
