Classes Resume in Mexico

The streets are busier and more kids in uniforms are out and about because...school's starting up again in Mexico. Most children return to classes this week or next week.

Here are a few fun notes about school in Mexico:

- Children go to school either in the morning or the afternoon. The morning sessions usually last from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the afternoon ones go from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. While kids may spend less time at school, they are given lots of homework to stay busy!

- Children enter kindergarten when they are three years old. They go to kindergarten for three years and then graduate...to first grade!

- Most grade schools and many middle schools require children to wear uniforms. This might include knee socks, skirts and collared shirts for girls, and dark pants and collared shirts for boys.

- Fiestas for holidays and other special occasions are regular events in school. Many children especially like "Children's Day," (April 30th) a day when children are given gifts and candies.
