Flashback: I first arrived in Mexico City on January 5, 2000. I can still remember getting off the plane, heart pounding, ready to begin my adventure as an English teacher. Marlene and Larry Schlomer, who were missionaries in Mexico City at the time, picked me up and took me to a hole-in-the-wall taco joint for supper. I was too nervous to eat, and tried to down a Diet Pepsi while looking nonchalant.
Mike joined us for supper. I remember being introduced to him, but not much else. How could I have known that he and I would eat at the taco place again and again, or that within 11 months, we'd be engaged?
But God knew. Mike and I got married in 2001. We stayed in Mexico City for a few years, and then moved to Torreón. Last year, we added Trinity to our family. In November, we hope to add another little girl to the Hartman household.
During our visit this summer to Mexico City, we dined at the taco restaurant where Mike and I first met (that's where we are in the picture above). The food was still as good as ever, and Trinity chowed down tacos alongside us.
Here's a picture of Trinity playing outside the taco joint after supper. I love the way she's peeking in on us; it makes me think of what God knew was coming our way that January night so long ago.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)
