Pachuca, a suburb of Mexico City, is famous for its gusty winds. So much air blows through it, in fact, that it's called "the beautiful windy city.” And there’s a special wind that's been working its way through here: the Gospel, which recently swept up three special women and led them to Christ.Janine López Lozada (pictured above) is a 19-year-old student. Some time ago, she came down with a serious illness that left her paralyzed. This disease brought many hard times for both her and her family. In short, it completely changed Janine's life.
Doctors did not give her any hope, and even suggested that she might remain paralyzed for the rest of her life.
One day Pastor Cajas, who shepherds the congregation "Cordero de Dios" (Lamb of God) here, met Janine through one of the neighbors in the area. Right away he started to encourage Janine and her family with God’s Word. He showed them how faith in the Lord is more powerful than any illness.
Little by little, Janine began to regain strength, until she was finally able to lift herself out of bed. This brought her and everyone that knew her great joy. Now she continues with her normal life, giving thanks to God for helping her.
From then on the family started to become more interested in the Word of God. They became frequent visitors at the church in Pachuca. There they learned to love and follow God according to his will.
I participated in a number of efforts to encourage the family to come to the mission congregation, from visiting them to offering free music classes. The classes helped Janine's hands to recover. Ultimately, however, it was God's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit that brought them to church.
On Saturday, July 12, 2008, the family was received as members of the church here. Señora Sra. Paula Losada and her two daughters, Paola Losada Perez who is 20 years old and Janine Descree Losada Perez who is 19 years old, were all confirmed. They have many ideas and and a great desire to serve in the church. With their talents, they will be able to greatly contribute to the ongoing work here.
Almost any opportunity is good for teaching. Sometimes people come to us and ask questions. We use this as a chance to teach them about God’s love. The best payment we receive is the gratitude of the people. They are so thankful to be taught about God's grace and how to follow him.
Rachel's note: This report was submited by Alejandro Sánchez Amaya. Alejandro is currently finishing his vicar year in Pachuca, and will receive an assignment to serve as a pastor at one of our churches in Mexico during the next month. Thanks Alejandro!
