New Seminary Student

Meet Pastor Juan de León (pictured in the middle), one of our newest seminary students. You may have noticed that I refer to him as "Pastor." This is because he is actually already a pastor; Juan de León served under a different Lutheran church body here in Mexico for 26 years.

Last year, Juan de León met Pastor Esequiel Sanchez, one of our Mexican pastors in Torreón. They quickly became friends. Pastor de León mentioned that he belonged to a synod that was Lutheran in name only. Pastor Esequiel Sanchez showed him materials that our Lutheran church body uses, including Luther's Catechism.

Pastor de León was eager to learn more about our Lutheran church. After some discussion, he expressed interest in becoming a pastor in our synod. He entered a colloquy program this summer. He will study at the Mexican Lutheran Seminary for three years, and then become a pastor in the Mexican Lutheran Church.

I really like being around Pastor Juan de León. He lights up a room when he walks into it. Quick to smile and eager to share his faith, he will be a great addition to our team of workers here in Mexico.
