Violence has recently increased in a number of areas in Mexico, including the border city of Juarez. Often referred to as the "most dangerous city in Mexico," an estimated 1,000 reported murders have taken place in Juarez so far this year. In the coming months, that number is expected to rise even more.
The violence has even affected our Lutheran congregation in Juarez. Recently, our Mexican pastor there started receiving personal threats. Due to the dangerous situation, the leaders of the Mexican Lutheran Church decided it was best to pull the pastor and his family out of Juarez for the time being. He will serve in a different area of Mexico until things settle down in Juarez.
While we also feel that it is best for the pastor to not be in Juarez at this moment, our hearts go out to the members of the congregation there.
Join us in praying for the pastor and his family, as well as the members of the Juarez congregation. It is our hope that God would grant the city some rest from the ongoing violence. When this happens, the pastor will head back to Juarez and the church will resume its activities.
