Getting Ready for Furlough

Today we started packing for furlough! (don't worry grandparents, we will remove Trinity from the suitcase before we zip it up :). Next week we head to the U.S. for a two-month break.

All missionaries get a two-month furlough every two years on the field (or three months after three years). This may seem like a long vacation, but it really is good for missionaries to take a break and step back into their culture. It gives guys like Mike a chance to recharge. It also gives them an opportunity to speak to congregations and schools about the mission work on their field.

On a personal level, I am excited to take the girls to the U.S. We'll be able to introduce Noelle to both sets of grandparents, and many other family members and friends. Trinity will have, as Mike calls it, an "immersion trip," meaning she'll have a chance to learn more English. Her current vocabulary consists of about 50 percent Spanish and 50 percent English.

I'll continue to update this site while we're on the road. I'll cover our U.S. experiences, and also provide updates about Mexico. So stay tuned...and join us in gearing up for a fun Christmas season!
